today is saturday 23 august 2003.
braves killed rox last night. grievous night--game went slow, and chipper's home run was by no means a chip shot (hit the third deck--kinda freaks you out when larry walker and preston wilson don't even move). sheffield got tossed pretty quick in the first. so did bobby cox. and there were way too many braves fans there.
it's the bottom of the ninth, the braves are up 9-3, smoltz on the mound. the count is full with two outs. someone explain to me why there's a meeting on the mound, and then owens of the braves starts throwing in the bullpen?
statehood day this week in the homeland. big event--something the mainlanders don't get.
melvinistic word i haven't heard in a while--pierogie. it was a form of greeting at the dining common for a while. "hey chief, when we going out for some pierogies?" to tell you the truth, i still really don't have a clue what a pierogie is, though i've had it a few times. if anyone knows of a pierogie place here in denver, let me know.
dodger report: la times reports gagne is ready to pitch every day if need be for the rest of the season. blue men are within striking range of the wild card--3 as of today with about 5 weeks to go. with last night's curious smoltz meeting, i kinda wonder if smoltz is hurt. then gagne can indeed lead the world in saves--and have a fighting shot at the cy young.
and yes, i hate to tell you detroit fans that perhaps contraction was something to consider earlier this year. one hundred and twenty losses come the end of september is a statistical reality.
