today is saturday 27 december 2003.
two days after Christmas, and not too many places on this island selling firecrackers (legally). learned a painful economics le$$on concerning supply and demand.
the university of hawaii beat the university of houston in the bowl game. but talk about fireworks--what about the brawl after the game? not to keep ripping the college students--but what idiot would throw a helmet into a mess of hawaii players--and then jump into the pile of polynesians? mainlanders can be so stupid at times--not to be mean, of course.
news in hawaii in not exciting. usual stories include turkey dinners and where to recycle Christmas trees. one thing was exciting--wild boar supposedly running lose on the beach of ewa and then tearing into the neighborhood there. you gotta love the news trucks. reporter--"the boar had to be put to death." scene--honolulu police pointing their guns under a house. bang. dead boar being drug out. reporter--"the owner of the home had dibs on the boar. the owner said he'd have it for dinner." i didn't believe the part about the boar on the beach attacking the surfers--until someone showed the cell phone photo (i kid you not--the pig was in the water!).
the two towers extended dvd clears a lot of things up.
doing nothing except watching old dvds. phantom menace isn't so bad--considering lameness of attack of the clones. how come the great scenes are gone? and the characters? why did the sith have to die? or quigon jin? jar jar should have died on the drawing board.
on to baseball. the boss steinbrenner in the hospital--all of boston rejoices. brian jordan signs with the rangers. all of los angeles rejoices. how can the rangers have such great players and continue to stink?
went to starbucks and got a gingerbread latte. $4 here in the homeland--i wouldn't normally get one, but the end of Christmastide looms near.
went around the island yesterday. saw the gliders land at mokuleia--they are really taking some shallow landings with the dead wind. even stopped at matsumoto's to have a shave ice--not really into that stuff, but i did it anyway to make people jealous--so there.
