Monday, December 29, 2003

today is monday 29 december 2003.

not much to blog about. watching the michael jackson stuff. you gotta watch fox news--"do you really think we're going to believe jackson? the cops beat him up--come on, it's whatever gyrations he does on stage is what dislocated his shoulder."

nuf said--i leave all that up to fox.

Saturday, December 27, 2003

today is saturday 27 december 2003.

two days after Christmas, and not too many places on this island selling firecrackers (legally). learned a painful economics le$$on concerning supply and demand.

the university of hawaii beat the university of houston in the bowl game. but talk about fireworks--what about the brawl after the game? not to keep ripping the college students--but what idiot would throw a helmet into a mess of hawaii players--and then jump into the pile of polynesians? mainlanders can be so stupid at times--not to be mean, of course.

news in hawaii in not exciting. usual stories include turkey dinners and where to recycle Christmas trees. one thing was exciting--wild boar supposedly running lose on the beach of ewa and then tearing into the neighborhood there. you gotta love the news trucks. reporter--"the boar had to be put to death." scene--honolulu police pointing their guns under a house. bang. dead boar being drug out. reporter--"the owner of the home had dibs on the boar. the owner said he'd have it for dinner." i didn't believe the part about the boar on the beach attacking the surfers--until someone showed the cell phone photo (i kid you not--the pig was in the water!).

the two towers extended dvd clears a lot of things up.

doing nothing except watching old dvds. phantom menace isn't so bad--considering lameness of attack of the clones. how come the great scenes are gone? and the characters? why did the sith have to die? or quigon jin? jar jar should have died on the drawing board.

on to baseball. the boss steinbrenner in the hospital--all of boston rejoices. brian jordan signs with the rangers. all of los angeles rejoices. how can the rangers have such great players and continue to stink?

went to starbucks and got a gingerbread latte. $4 here in the homeland--i wouldn't normally get one, but the end of Christmastide looms near.

went around the island yesterday. saw the gliders land at mokuleia--they are really taking some shallow landings with the dead wind. even stopped at matsumoto's to have a shave ice--not really into that stuff, but i did it anyway to make people jealous--so there.

Wednesday, December 24, 2003

today is tuesday 23 december 2003.

so i'm walking in foot locker, and i see a bartolo colon jersey. it's black, so i wonder since when did the angels have black jerseys. actually it's a colon jersey before he was traded from the white sox--should be on clearance.

bought coffee i really didn't like today. first time . . . at least for a long while.

news in hawaii is a trip. a guy on the u of hawaii won't play in the bowl game because he's academically ineligible--don't start on me for not having pity. he can't pass two of four classes? you've got to be kidding me!!!

the macy's in downtown was vandalized--someone threw a manhole cover through a picture window. is hawaii news so desparate for news?

santa comes to waikiki via canoe. norad is going to have fits trying to track his where abouts--not to mention coast guard, ins, tsa, and half a dozen other governement agencies.

Tuesday, December 23, 2003

today is monday 22 december 2003.

back in the homeland. real tired yesterday--went to sleep at 7:00 p.m.--but remember the time difference as it is much later in denver. 8-0

nothing wild in the homeland. security alerts are up--great, not that getting through the airports was any easier. sounds like lax will be intense when i go through again next week--wonderful.

nothing much planned.

Wednesday, December 17, 2003

today is wednesday 17 december 2003.

semester exams . . . densem was a 6 page paper. i think i like giving them out.

played a little ping pong baseball with middle schoolers yesterday. rude introduction to mr. knuckleball who has a mind of his own.

Lord of the Rings came out today. for the record, i haven't seen it . . .

Sunday, December 14, 2003

today is sunday 14 december 2003.

no gripe about the news today--talk all you want about the capture of saddam hussein.

dodgers don't look like they're going to get miguel tejada--he went to baltimore. that's interesting--because if baltimore or even toronto want to compete, a four-way race is almost unheard of.

someone at the la times sorta had if figured out. if the dodgers lost brown and 30+ mil in salary, then the money could be spent somewhere--perhaps tejada, vladi guerrero, maglio ordonez or konerko of the sox with the trade of the jeff weaver.

i say forget the dodgers--let's worry about the angels. 8-0

Saturday, December 13, 2003

today is saturday 13 december 2003.

big gripe--why does anyone care about the keiko the orca from free willy? if you're holding a vigil, you've got problems.

colorado Christmas on thursday nothing short of cool. almost considering going again.

houston is not playing fair. they signed andy pettite, and pettite is talking to the rocket clemens about making a few appearances. the nl--especially the central is going to hate life.

the dodgers are without kevin brown. and little matsui went to the mets. jeff weaver won't be sticking around--so it'll be interesting who the blue men get.

not that i really care--because i'm all about the angels!!!

Wednesday, December 10, 2003

today is wednesday 10 december 2003.

so baseball headlines are somewhat interesting this time of year. another matsui in new yoirk. boston getting a-rod is bad news--why the mess would you go out and get a shortstop when you have one? is the a-rod for ramirez trade really that good?

talk about getting down to business--everyone is looking at boston and new york--what of anaheim. they're talking about getting nomar!!! i tell you, forget the dodgers--it's them guys across disneyland that's seems serious about baseball. their payroll is about on the same par with the dodgers. and perhaps fantasyland ain't across the street anymore--it's thirty miles north on off i-5?

aside from this, nothing really going on. concert schedule for this week: colorado Christmas at boettcher hall, one at cherry creek presbyterian on sat, and maybe one more on sunday at some bethlehem lutheran church in wheat ridge sun afternoon.

Tuesday, December 09, 2003

today is tuesday 09 december 2003.

maddux is no longer a brave--but i don't know if i'll cheer for him, unless of course he becomes a dodgers. i-rod is no longer a marlin. he should join the dodgers. huff of the d-rays should join the dodgers. actually, i think everyone in tampa bay wishes they were elsewhere. they should send sheffield there.

and what of "the move." that is--bartolo colon to anaheim! i think i'm an angels fan again!

snow here in denver. enough to keep me out of starbucks. nothing like the thrill of driving along, hitting your brakes, and not slowing down--gotta love ice.

but not enough to keep me from reading. not real heavy stuff yesterday. got a take-home semester exam from densem. at least i know what's coming at me.

Sunday, December 07, 2003

today is sunday 07 december 2003.

sixty-two years after pearl harbor . . . and the sad thing is, i believe, is that americans forget.

today i go to panda express. i've been there enough--time for a free meal.

fazoli's has been the spot of cheap italian of late.

what happened to them nuggets? talking about catching on fire. the avs need to keep an eye out on them. broncos too. nuggets tickets could be the big sports team here in the mile high city. i'm not too concerned about the rockies. i really think the nl west needs to watch out for the padres--the d-backs are making moves, but they're in decline. san fran is in decline. and i'll admit--the dodgers could well be in limbo. again.

love the Christmas lights in this town.

snow is expected tomorrow. but the weather people have been saying that for the last three or four days.

no more concerts until thursday--but what a holiday season so far!

Saturday, December 06, 2003

today is saturday 06 december 2003.

yes indeed, a rarity these days--blogs on consecutive days.

another pit bull attack in colorado gives the breed a bad name--i tell you the truth, pit bulls can be some of the nicest animals out there. my mom has a pit bull--kindest dog we ever had--or perhaps i should annoying . . . won't leave me alone for attention.

flu is running rampant in colorado. and no, i didn't get a flu shot. i just hope dr. guthrie (math prof at bju) is still right--no virus had better attack a mathematician.

talking about the other viruses--the one that can infect your pc--is it really true 1 in every 4 computers have a virus of a type?

holiday concerts season in full swing. thurs saw the evergreen children's chorale in center stage evergreen. not bad, but they did a lot of disney. closing number was a silent night processional--moving, simply moving.

friday was the cherry creek chorale at bethany lutheran church in englewood. not bad, either. the mockery of the twelve days of Christmas with "the twelve days after Chrstmas" was halfway funny.

today was the colorado children's chorale. this one wasn't even fair. benjamin britten's ceremony of candles was incredible--it's not fair they peform in boettcher hall. the processional takes on added dimension. and having someone like samuel lancaster partner and arrange for them is not fair also. and what other children's choir burns cds? yeah, i told myself no more buying Christmas cds--but this was an exception, and i must admit i'm glad i bought this one.

Friday, December 05, 2003

today is friday 05 december 2003.

new thing in the jr. high purgatory lunch is the kiddies are telling me my clothes don't match? and theirs does?

another thing they're telling me is they want to give me money, and i would pick up their chinese order from imperial dragon. this would work--i should partner with the restaurant. both imperial dragon and mama chula's.

back to baseball . . . so my phone reads that yankees get a new ace. glad to find out it wasn't kevin brown.

Thursday, December 04, 2003

today is thursday 04 december 2003.

Christmastime is definitely here. got the fake tree and pine-scented candles in the classroom to make like i have a real tree!

holiday concert schedule will start. much going on in the metro area.

back to baseball. sportingnews.com had some interesting things to say about the dodgers. keep gm evans and manager tracy, keep beltre, perhaps trade kevin brown for yankee jeff weaver, get kazuo matsui, get a real left fielder. we'll see how things go.
