today is friday 30 june 2006.

the nl wild west . . . right now padres up by one. los angeles, colorado, and san fran all tied at second one game behind, and aridzona in last four games out . . . still a close division.

ie 7 beta 3 came out yesterday. so exciting this takes a line in my blog. i think i might keep it . . . it has anti-phising built in. and mcafee works with this beta, but ie does seem a little slower.

aside from that, nothing really going on . . .

Thursday, June 29, 2006

today is thursday 29 june 2006.

dodgers stink. the rockies are tied for second . . . and the giants are a half-game behind in the third. the nl west is a mess.

mlb all star voting ends today. this is so exciting this takes a line in my blog.

listening to the tech blogs, i guess there's a new game circulating. two people jump up and down, and on a given jump they face each other as either a bear, pirate, or ninja. bears eat pirates, pirates slice ninjas, and ninjas karate kick bears . . . like paper-scissors-rocks (or in hawaii we call this jan-ken-po) . . .

and no in algebra 1 summer school we don't play bears, pirates, ninjas . . . we play baseball of the ping pong variety. and yes the students are not liking the fastball-fastball-knuckleball sequence. the fastball was indeed on fire today. until the ball cracked and we were done . . .

yeah, i hate to say this . . . in my old age, my arm hurts after pitching. 8-b good thing hadj isn't here--he might be as cruel as the minnesota fans of late . . .

Wednesday, June 28, 2006

today is wednesday 28 june 2006.

another kinda blah day . . . csi new york is probably a rerun. kinda hot here in denver. and nothing really wild for lunch or dinner--though meatloaf (like lasagne) is better leftover than right out of the oven.

salt and vinegar chips are pretty strong. at the last rockies game, the people in our section called them the "chips of death."

also at the last rockies game, i saw the charisian presence's former neighbor selling tickets and got in some chit chat. the guys i was with was a little concerned--"dude, you come to so many of these games you know the people at the ticket window?"

the nl west is nothing but blah except if the dodgers lose (which they did again last night). i hear it when the dodgers lose--but the minnesotans here have been actually kind . . . i get a text message or two to remind me of the drubbing the dodgers endured this week. and i guess people can bring their brooms to the metrodome later today.

on the computer front, i finally got a juice podcast receiver working on my system. been listening to some tech stuff from cnet.com and some classical music stuff--but i'm open to suggestions.

on the tech front, the dsl line gets a work out at night running encrypted, remote backups from mozy.com . . . if you don't have a method of backing up data--consider using mozy.com.

and finally, encryption is something else. the things you can do with truecrypt is really, really wild. and gpg is wild also.

Wednesday, June 21, 2006

today is wednesday 21 june 2006.

quote from netscape.com worthy of republishing . . . in referring to cats, "They're lazy, disobedient and they sleep more than most postal workers, yet cats have been worshipped by societies dating back to antiquity. Unlike dogs (man's true best friend), cats are flea-ridden, hairball-coughing ingrates that would just as soon claw your eyes out as acknowledge you. It's little wonder that James Bond villains were seldom without one. Granted, they're independent and relatively low-maintenance, but it's difficult to respect a creature whose chief selling point is that it defecates in a box. Let's face it; you know something stinks when people routinely give it away for free."

the oakland a's have come to denver and have their offense die. in two games, a total of 8 hits and no runs. no kidding. the team that was ridding a 10-game winning streak has yet to score here.

the miami heat won the nba finals last night. so exciting this takes a line in my blog.

the dodgers fell from first after the padres won and the dodgers lost their fourth straight. in the nl wild west, every team except san fran has touched first place . . . that's too bad for san fran. 8-b

Tuesday, June 20, 2006

today is tuesday 20 june 2006.

so the dodgers don't play, so i figured not to go to www.dodgers.com yesterday to help reduce anxiety. i look it up today to see who's pitching, and i glance at the standings and notice the d-backs are not in second place anymore . . . how the mess did the padres climb to tie the dodgers to lead the division!

the stanley cup was last night. this is so exciting this takes a line in my blog. like anyone in raleigh really cared? i remember going to the greenville growl (minor league hockey) a few years ago . . . the growl had to put hockey terms in the program so that people could figure out what was going on. the huricane's winning is almost an insult i would figure--it's like atlantans boasting of their snow storm to guys in duluth . . . out of place.

the oakland a's had a 10 game winning streak. the rockies were just swept in st. louis. never would've figured the rox were going to kill the a's 7-0 last night . . . but perhaps oaklanders don't like the altitude.

so i'm teaching inequalities in algebra 1 yesterday. i draw a bunch of greater-than and less-than signs. the kids elaborate on their greater-than and less-than signs . . . soon these mathematical figures become pac-man . . . and then fish . . . one turns into a clam. one kid tells me he made a nice clam--produces pearls . . . wait a minute, oysters have pearls . . . coloradans and sealife is like carolina and hockey--out of place.

Monday, June 19, 2006

today is monday 19 june 2006.

nothing really going on, kinda a blah day . . . dodgers are off . . . miami csi is probably a rerun . . . we're having leftovers for dinner . . . no new software/hardware installs . . . so nothing really going on today . . .

the dodgers get a day off after the roadtrip . . . of nine games, they win two. and yet they lead the division? tough week for the nl west.

Friday, June 16, 2006

today is friday 16 june 2006.

so microsoft officially pulls the plug on windows 98 and me . . . no more updates, and one magazine write that all win 98 and me users are left alone in the world to fend for themselves . . .

then this same author says it's like ford building a defective vehicle . . . for the first couple of years ford says it's ok to fix . . . and then they stop. consumers would never go for that--so why do they put up with it with windows . . .

my advice to those using win 98 and me--take your old system and move to linux! think of the possibilities . . . no more windows updates, no more blue screens of death, no square windows--you even get a choice of penguin, lizard, or even a puppy logo if you want!

the wild west is wild indeed. this week, the dodgers remain in first, then the d-backs a game behind, followed by the padres, giants, and rox. the rox by the way swept the nationals in washington, got two games above 500, and are two games behind front running dodgers.

worse case scenerio this weekend--dodgers lose all their games, rox win all their games, and rox go back to first . . . but the rox will have to get through st. louis. but the team that might have the advantage this weekend--the padres, as they fast the lowly angels.

Sunday, June 04, 2006

today is sunday 04 june 2006.

yeah, teaching algebra 1 is wild . . . question number 27 on friday's test is name the property for -8(-5+3)=(-8)(-5)+(-8)(3) . . . best answer is "divination." of course it is.

another mystical thing is the national league west . . . so this week, arizona and the dodgers are still streaking, and the rockies are slowly fading away. the rox have fallen to last, one game below .500 . . . my prediction of 96 games is fading like a vegetation in the colorado heat. at this rate, the rox may win 75.

the dodgers are a different story. i'm listening to vin scully, and the big difference this year is all the guys contributing like ethier, aybar, and guzman--they have risen from the minors and done well in the majors.

hadj has an interesting take on the single servings of twinkies . . . should we call them just a twinkie because they are now alone . . . more pressing problem is the ding dong . . . and what about them ho ho(s)? this is problematic.

the dodgers are coming back to colorado this week . . . so all those wanting to come to the game--meet me at 6:00!
