i guess nothing real exciting today. pocket pc crashed again--but i'm getting used to the occasional crashes that recovery is really no big deal anymore. dodgers lost. angels lost. so who really cares about baseball anymore--i'm starting to sound like a rockies fan, but even the rockies are tied with the dodgers for the division. nothing really going on--perhaps i go to ds and hang out with the scholars for a little while. even back in hawaii--big news is primate reserve is in trouble. why does hawaii need a primate reserve? the island has enough monkeys flying in already. 8-0

it's a little past noon--and news around here is there's nothing going on. even the dodgers aren't playing. so 'nuf said.

nothing big aside from a normal sunday. didn't hang out at some chinese place on coloroado boulevard after church--first time in a month. helped someone with a sermon at chipotle instead.

bob uecker got inducted to the baseball hall of fame today. words of wisdom on how to catch a knuckleball--"wait until it stops rolling and pick it up."

strange comment from some kid at church--"that's mr. c, we met him at a chinese restaurant." great, that's all i'm known for in this kid's mind--she'll only know me as the guy who hangs out at chinese restaurants.

speaking on the topic of restaurants, i hate it when people at restaurants call you by what you order. i hate being known as "double-cheeseburger, no pickles, and value fries" at mcdonalds, "sweet and sour pork" at more than one chinese restaurant, or "grande americano" at starbucks.

in case you call my wireless phone, and i answer "what's going on sam?" don't be alarmed. i know more often than not who you are. plus i really don't know anyone named sam.

dodger report: dodgers killed d-backs. o.k.--maybe killed is too strong a word, but the ever smiley hideo and the rest of the dodger pitchers kept the d-backs from scoring. larry barnes got the lone rbi that was enough for this western face-off.

nothing real exciting. watched the oakland a's and the anahiem angels--more like a double-play clinic--the a's turned five of them.

dodger report: nothing to report, especially about the offence. they ain't scoring again. can't switch to the angels--they're planning flat, too.

nothing real exciting. messed with outlook and exchange. can't figure out how to make public folders for the life of me. biggest news here in the denver sports front is the debut of taiwanese pitcher Chin-hui Tsao for the rockies tonights. cracks me up--no such hype when Chin-Feng Chen came up for the dodgers. every oriental like Jae Seo, Tohma Okha, Hideo Nomo, Kazuhisa Ishii, Ichiro Suzuki, Kazuhiro Sasaki, Shigetoshi Hasegawa, Chan Ho Park, and Hee Seop Choi are wondering what all the craze is about.

observation: you know you're from Hawaii or the West Coast or New York when you can breeze through a dozen oriental names, get the spelling right, and even tell the nationalities! in order, first two are Taiwanese (Tsao and Chen), Korean, next six are Japanese, and the last two are Korean.

got a new Bible today. NASB '95 update. real small. got one for the occasion of starting up at den sem. nope, not even tempted to carry in a NIV, even though everyone at den sem does. for the record, i do use a NIV for my daily reading. 8-0

nothing much today or yesterday. big event yesterday was the not getting good service at chile's--so went to the other chile's down the street a piece. didn't want to stick around the first chile's--dodgers were getting slaughtered by the rox last night right after i left.

dodger game with rox was a pitching matchup galore. eleven shutout innings is almost too much to handle at times, though. greenie won the game with a single through center.

beside that, nothing too exciting going on.

no blogs yesterday. saturday routine: ihop, then some reading at seminary library, then twib and mlb game of the week (st. louis and dodgers, but there is a reason i'm not saying much about it), then some more reading at starbucks.

sunday--no real exceptions from the norm except no panda express as i went to a birthday party.

unmelvinistic foods:

macaroni and cheese--can't stand it. don't know why i order at kfc. maybe i do it to remind me how much i can't stand it.

grits--how can anyone eat that stuff.

cream of wheat--ditto.

oatmeal--'nuf said.

poi--i don't get. people eat this wall-paper paste-like substance before they eat sushi.

give me a good slab of meatloaf anyday. 8-0

dodger report: brown hitting his spots spots yesterday. bad throw to first (bounced off kinkade's glove) proved to be the game winner. offense simply explosive tonight--but not against the heavy bats of st. louis.

big cat on maui supposed mauled a 30 pound fawn. maui officials say big may have been loose for up to six months--i got a feeling this ain't you're typical household feline.

rumors abound about me and denver seminary. no tie on sunday had a few people gasping--i just say "running with the evangelicals, my friends--it's all about relevance and reaching our culture." people gasp some more--but i tend to think it was the 100 degree weather, and i was one of the few to finally dress down because of the heat.

melvinistic observation: why is that people think flower shirts are really hawaiian shirts? us locals would never wear anything with flowers--real hawaiian shirts have fish, not flowers!

dodger report: jeromy burnitz in left field, ricky henderson on the bench and possible in center. nuf said.

no blogs this weekend because the dodgers were in town. friday, i promise you quantrill should've gotten that 3-2 pitch to be called strike three instead of walking in the winning run--too borderline to win a game. sat, the dodgers just needed to get preston wilson out of the game, but belliard in the bottom of the first did look like he had an inside the park hr. neagle stunk for the rockies yesterday--four pitches and the dodgers already had three extra base hits. on the all star game tomorrow . . .

tired. slept all afternoon. outlook and exchange rules don't work as well as groupwise. went to krispy kreme and watch the the doughnuts come out of the fryer and into the sugar waterfall--what a blessed sight! beside that, nothing really going on. no big cats found in maui. but hawaiian airlines is resuming flights to pago pago if anyone cares.

nothing big today. homiletics went great. i guess greatest compliment was that i was "martin luther king-esque" . . . i don't know if that's good or bad.

nuff about the dodgers . . . by this weekend, the rockies could overtake the dodgers in the race . . . so on to the angels--glauss got cleared to play because of flu. eckstein should be playing soon.

dodger report: dodgers indeed cold. three blue men to all-star game--loduca, brown, and gagne. brown probably won't pitch. dodger outfield is a mess with roberts and jordan down.

today is saturday 05 july 2003.

no blogs yesterday. busy. went to see the rockies game and fireworks on thurs. then went to all-night starbucks to work on homework. got everything done by 5:00 a.m. (and i must say, strange folk come in at the all-night starbucks.) got up at noon--went to cookout at a friend's house, and then went to see some fireworks.

woke up saturday by 8:30 a.m., breakfast at ihop, then off to the seminary library. got stung by a yellow jacket that sorta just climbed on me--but me the warrior fought the little insect off. d-backs/dodgers were on the fox game of the week. and od perez sticks his left arm in his mouth this time--no hitter to the eighth! wonderful game--but saying just what everyone knows (and what od got in trouble for last week) dodgers offense is plain offensive. dead last in every defensive category ain't going to cut it.

beside that. nothing going on. i-paq with keyboard worked flawlessly at starbucks and the library--size and battery life is advantage to a notebook. no big cat sightings on maui.

dodger report: look above. brown misses next start so wilson alvarez is going to need to do a spot start.

much like yesterday, class went fine. uneventful day in class, uneventful on maui with no sight of the big cat, uneventful on the melvinistic front with no new terms. i'll even add frustration to those frustrated dodger fans out there by making the dodger report uneventful.

uneventful. went to class. went to get something to eat. will go to youth group later. nothing eventful. no new melvinistic terms. no big cat sightings on maui. nothing really going on.

melvinistic term:

soccer mom--the high school student who gets the priviledge of driving the minivan to school. much worse if filled with elementary age siblings. problem compounded if neighbor's kids join the frey. no end to the madness if high schooler must pick up groceries on the way back home or actually take the kids to sports practices.

today class went fine. found interesting insights to 2 sam 11-12--not a story of adultery and murder. rather--it's a power struggle.
